A reader has reached out to Newry.ie to see if any local information could be found on his father who he believes may have lived in Newry at a stage. Al McCabe is trying to prove his qualification for an Irish Passport but he needs more details, potentially information on a school his father attended etc.
John Francis (Mary) McCabe was born 8 August 1924. His mothers name was Margaret Mary McCabe (Walsh) and his fathers name was Thomas Joseph McCabe.
As Al explains "My father was born in Dublin in 1924 which I know because I have his passport issued in 1944 and his Palestine police records stating that fact. I am unable though to trace either his birth certificate or baptismal certificate as there are no official records of him and I have contacted all the main churches in Dublin to no avail."
He has been in touch with registration of births department who have requested that he tries to trace school records which prove he went to school here. His family lived in Dublin, Dundalk and Newry but Dublin and Dundalk have given no leads so Newry is the last chance.
Al's specifically wanting to know of the schools in Newry that his father may have went to and if any of them would still retain records from the time.
With McCabe being a common name in Newry it is quite possible that someone out there would have the last piece of the jigsaw needed to prove a connection to the area at the time.
