A security alert that was ongoing through the night in the Martins Lane area of Newry has been declared a hoax following a controlled explosion.
The incident resulted in several households having to leave their homes on Easter Saturday night but they were allowed to return in the early hours of this morning.
Thanks to a quick response from the Council and the Housing Executive the families were accommodated in the Mourne Country Hotel in the early hours of Easter Sunday and provided with much needed food and refreshments from Pat Courtneys, Friar Tucks and La Dolce Vita.
This follows on from Good Friday's incident at Cloughogue where a 'viable device' was defused.
