Evora Hospice is calling on people in the Newry area to volunteer for its Big Bucket Collection 2026, with this year's fundraising drive in the area taking place on Friday 20 March.

The Big Bucket Collection is one of the hospice's flagship fundraising campaigns and helps sustain specialist palliative and end-of-life care services across Armagh, Down and Tyrone. Funds raised support almost 1,000 patients each year through services delivered in people's homes, wellbeing centres and inpatient facilities. Evora Hospice is encouraging anyone aged 16 and over to consider giving a couple of hours of their time to take part in the collection in their local community.

The campaign holds particular personal significance for Rosie Teggarty, the hospice's voluntary services manager, whose own experience of hospice care inspired her to pursue a career in the sector.

"Several years ago, my childhood best friend was diagnosed with a life-limiting condition. Until then, I had never truly understood what hospice care meant. Seeing the care and compassion she received had a profound impact on me, and it's one of the reasons I now work at Evora Hospice," she said.

Teggarty added that the collection was about the wider community coming together. "Sadly, most of us will know someone living with a life-limiting condition. At Evora Hospice, we're here not only for patients, but for their families and carers too. The Big Bucket Collection is about the local community coming together to support care that truly makes a difference."

Siobhan McArdle, fundraising manager at Evora Hospice, urged people to consider giving their time. "If you can spare just one or two hours to help collect in your town you'll be helping patients and families in some of life's hardest moments because it's your generosity that enables us to be there when your community needs us most."

Anyone interested in volunteering for the Big Bucket Collection in the Newry area on 20 March can sign up at evorahospice.org/big-bucket or call 028 3026 7711.
