Rug retailer Kukoon have wildly surpassed expectations from their 24 hour fundraiser for Gaza. The Newry based company raised an incredible £177,993.98 for the Oxfam Gaza Appeal. Kukoon sell their rugs around the world from their website and more locally from their store in The Quays Shopping Centre.
Last week they announced that they would be donating 100% of the revenue it raised from both online and in-store sales on Friday past 8 August to the Oxfam Gaza Appeal. At the time they expected to raise £40k but they raised over four times that amount. Announcing the figure Kukoon founders Paul Vallely and Clare Walsh thanked everyone "You've surpassed every hope we had. We are grateful beyond measure and inspired by your compassion." they said.
Oxfam's Gaza Appeal points out that every £9 raised can support 10 families to access water for a day or one family for a week while £43 can provide one family with ready-to-eat food parcels for a week.
