Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins MLA has welcomed a party of Barcroft Community Association's Over 60's Club to the Assembly.
The Minister who hails from Barcroft, said: "It was great to welcome good friends and old neighbours to Stormont and give them a tour of Parliament Buildings. Growing up in Barcroft, me and my family benefited greatly from the work of the powerful community association there. Their Over 60s club is a dynamic group of community activists and characters, and it was great to catch up with them all.
"The group were joined by another Barcroft MLA, my party colleague, Sinéad Ennis. I really hope they enjoyed their day out and tour of Stormont.
"Newry communities are strong and welcoming. The work done by community associations across our city is beyond description. They support community development, provide safe spaces for social interaction, entertain and empower our young people and contribute to an environment where people look out for one another and, crucially, support one another. In short, active community associations, like Barcroft, make our towns and cities safer, stronger, better places to live and work in.
"We in Sinn Féin will continue to work hard to support and enhance our local community associations as fundamental pillars of our society."
