A picket, organised by the Anti-Internment Group of Ireland against the ongoing use of Internment will take place in Monaghan Street this Saturday 24 June, 3pm and organisers are asking republicans, trade unionists and community organisations to attend.
Speaking ahead of the event local Saoradh representative and former republican prisoner Stephen Murney said "We in Saoradh and the Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association [IRPWA] will be fully supporting this event organised by the Anti-Internment Group of Ireland and we are encouraging all our members and supporters to attend."
"Internment is not something that's confined to the past. It's very much in use today. Many republicans find themselves interned by remand for several years. It's important that we continue to highlight such issues."
"We would urge all those with an interest in human rights to join with us to oppose Internment in occupied Ireland. We invite republicans, trade unions and community organisations to attend and take a stand against injustice"
