Write a commentDanny Kennedy has announced his intention to put his name forward to be the Ulster Unionist Party representative for the European Parliament Elections in May.
Mr Kennedy from Bessbrook was a Stormont MLA from 1998 to 2017 as well as being a councillor in the former Newry and Mourne District Council.
Present MEP, Jim Nicholson who has been in the post since 1989 and won't be standing on this occasion.
In a tweet Mr Nicholson commented "It has been an enormous honour to represent Northern Ireland in the European Parliament for the last 30 years as the Ulster Unionist Party MEP. I sincerely hope I have represented you all with distinction"
