During his strike he was elected TD for the Cavan/Monaghan constituency.  Every year cyclists leave from his monument at Ballyconnell in Cavan and head for his hometown of Andersonstown, Belfast.

The group left Ballyconnell on Saturday morning making the 45 mile journey to Crossmaglen where they stayed for the night.

On Sunday morning they were joined by local cyclists for the second leg of the journey, which paused at the Raymond McCreesh Memorial in Camlough before heading on to finish in Belfast.
