Several waste diesel containers have been dumped at the picturesque Flagstaff viewpoint just outside Newry.

Newry, Mourne and Down Councillor Liz Kimmins voiced her anger commenting that those who dumped the cubes at the Flagstaff had no respect for the community or the environment.
"This is an act of environmental crime which has angered the local community. Those engaged in dumping their toxic sludge with no respect or care about its potential poisonous impact are motivated by greed".
Cllr Kimmins continued "I have contacted the Council and asked them to liaise with the Environmental agency to ensure that the area is cleared as soon as practically possible. Unfortunately the cost of this operation will have to be picked up by the ratepayers. Those engaged in this type of environmental crime need to be apprehended."
