MLA Liz Kimmins has welcomed an update on the second phase of funding to support businesses impacted by flooding in October/November in Newry and Downpatrick. The funding plans to offer up to £100k for qualifiying businesses.
The Newry and Armagh representive said that supporting families and businesses impacted by the devastating flooding in November has been a priority for Sinn Féin locally.
"After a number of meetings, working with LPS and the Department of the Economy, we’re pleased to hear that more funding will be available soon.
“The scheme will be split into two parts, capped at £100,000 in total, the first part, for £10,000 will be straightforward to help businesses access funds quickly.

“The second part, making up the other £90,000 will require more detail, dealing with more complicated issues such as stock loss."
The MLA said “I have been working with a number of people, including families who are still out of their homes and businesses who remain closed with little to no help in covering these costs.
“Before Christmas, I met with senior officials from Dept for Economy and Communities with my Sinn Féin colleagues and made it explicitly clear that both homeowners and businesses must be given adequate support."
While welcoming the news of latest funding for businesses the Newry and Armagh representative stressed that home owners should also be supported.
“We are also continuing to press DFC for funds to support residential properties so that those whose homes were damaged are not left behind.
“Sinn Féin will continue to work to support families and businesses as they look to recover from the November floods."
