The owners of leading Irish rug retailer Kukoon have praised the ‘incredible generosity’ of its customers who helped raise £177,993.98 on Friday, August 8, to help save lives in Gaza.

The final amount far exceeded the company’s initial expectation of £40,000 and brother and sister duo Paul and Clare Vallely, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in the fundraising effort.

They said: “We’re humbled, inspired and grateful beyond measure by the incredible generosity of our customers. When we announced we would donate 100% of our revenue we never imagined we would raise almost £178,000.

“Children should never be caught in conflict and what’s happening right now is deeply wrong.

“To every customer who chose to shop with us on Friday, August 8, and to those who spread the word – thank you.”

Oxfam’s Gaza Appeal is working tirelessly to support those facing starvation, mass displacement and the collapse of essential services in Gaza.

The charity’s CEO, Jim Clarken said: “This initiative was unique, Kukoon were willing to forego 100% of their revenue and it was tremendously successful.

“The success of this initiative can be replicated, and I would encourage other Irish businesses who want to contribute to the people of Gaza to consider something similar.

“We know that the need is great and that all of us can, in our own way and commensurate with our means, help the people of Gaza to withstand the genocide and man-made famine they are struggling against.”

Every £9 raised can support 10 families to access water for a day or one family for a week while £43 can provide one family with ready-to-eat food parcels for a week.
