Last night's Christmas Light switch-on in Newry and the fun Santa Dash has been hailed as a resounding success. For the thousands that turned out it was a chance to take part in a fun community event, catch up with friends and listen to some incredibly singers. The Uplifted Gospel Choir really got everyone in the mood with some truly uplifting songs.
Sophie Lennon will perform for Ireland at next months Junior Eurovision Final in Armenia, but last night she was all Newry's and what a voice. Her rendition of Oh Holy Night took the audience to a different level. The 12 year old from Mayobridge has an incredible future ahead. Emily Flanagan was another young singer with a tremendous future. A finalist in The Voice Kids show Emily's version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas on stage was incredible.
Of course Santa is always star of the show when he made his appearance on stage to switch on the Christmas Tree lights with the help of host Connor Martin and Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Michael Savage.
The annual Santa Dash saw many colourful characters run down Hill Street and back with two La Dolce Vita Santa's arriving back first in the fun event.
It's great when something works in Newry, it really does lift us all and makes us hungry for more.
