Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Michael Savage hosted a civic reception recently to recognise the significant contribution to the area from local community volunteers John McCabe and Aíslinn Campbell.
Both John and Aíslinn have worked tirelessly on a range of environmental initiatives to benefit and enhance the local community in Lisdrumgullion and Newry. Their volunteering work includes organising regular litter picks, planting over 30 trees and an array of Spring Flowers to create ‘Flowers Of Hope’ beds with local children. Working in partnership with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive they have also sown wild flower meadows and they can be regularly seen clearing moss and weeds and cutting hedges to assist elderly residents.
John is also an avid campaigner for road safety, working with the Department For Infrastructure to erect road warning signs on the Armagh Road.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Michael Savage said, “John and Aíslinn you are outstanding community ambassadors and I want to thank you for the contributions that you have made and continue to make to our community. I am very impressed by your volunteering efforts and your selfless attitude towards improving our district and helping local residents. I wish you both every success with all your future endeavours.”
