The proceeds of a raffle at an International Women's Day event, organised last month by Newry, Mourne and Down Chairperson, Cllr Cathy Mason have been handed over to the Women's Aid charity.
Council Deputy Chairperson, Councillor Oonagh Magennis presented £1,000 to Women’s Aid, Armagh and Down as well as £1000 to Women’s Aid, Belfast and Lisburn.
Chairperson, Councillor Cathy Mason said, “I am delighted to be in a position to present cheques to Women’s Aid who are on the front line in terms of dealing with individuals and families that find themselves in the most difficult of situations. Women’s Aid offers not just shelter but safety and peace of mind and continuous support for women and children who have suffered domestic abuse.
“I sincerely thank our sponsors Re-Gen Waste Ltd for their invaluable financial contribution and to all the businesses that sponsored prizes for the raffle. The day was a wonderful success in where we recognised, commemorated, and promoted women’s achievements in our society and was one of the highlights of my year as First Citizen. It is therefore only fitting that the proceeds of the raffle from that day are used to help, empower and build a future for vulnerable women and their families.”
