Write a commentOver thirty events will be staged around the Ring of Gullion at the fourth Lúnasa Festival in August.
The Lúnasa Festival is a grassroots festival co-ordinated by the Ring of Gullion Landscape Partnership Scheme which is part of the Heritage Lottery Fund’s programme to conserve and enhance some of our most treasured landscapes.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Mark Murnin said, “I am delighted to announce this year’s Lúnasa Festival. The Ring of Gullion is an amazing place that I plan to explore this summer through taking part in some of the many events and activities that will be part of this festival. I am proud that Lúnasa is part-funded by the Council and it is great to see volunteers and local communities involved in organising such a range of brilliant events. I know that the programme will have something for everyone and I would encourage everyone to come to one of our district’s most beautiful areas.”
This year’s festival is bigger and better than ever before, with over 30 events. Activities range from the fabulous Footsteps in the Forest - combating the mythical witch of the mountain; to the more intimate evening with John Spillane in the beautiful Creggan Church. There will also be a visit from Roary the T Rex at the Geotastic Extravaganza for those fascinated by dinosaurs.
Themes for the Lúnasa festival include: arts and crafts, health and wellbeing, myths and memories, guided walks and hikes, family-friendly and even ‘something a bit different’ such as wild swimming, surviving the zombie apocalypse and Celtic historical re-enactments.
