More than 600 runners took part in the annual Lurgan Park Fun Run last weekend, raising over £11,712 for the Evora Hospice in what proved to be another hugely successful event.
Now in its 12th year, the popular run took place last Sunday 1 March, attracted participants of all ages from across the north, with glorious weather providing ideal conditions on the day. The total raised across all 12 years has now surpassed £96,000.
Tony McKeown, from the Organising Committee, said the response from runners had once again exceeded expectations. "We had 600 runners sign up online before the event and more registered on the day. We were amazed at the amount raised. The event just seems to be getting bigger each year."
A key factor in maximising the fundraising total is the support of local businesses and community, with all staging costs covered by sponsors meaning every penny of runner entry fees goes directly to the hospice. Overall sponsors McKeevers Sports provided medals, t-shirts, prizes and event administration. Further support came from Tesco Lurgan, who provided fruit, S&W Wholesale with Brunch bars, Aqua Twist with water, Fitness Factory who led the warm-up, McDonald's Lurgan who sponsored the First Aid, and Dermot Winters who provided the clock. Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council provided use of the park, staff and event supplies.
