Slieve Gullion Councillor Oonagh Magennis has welcomed news that Belleeks Playpark will be extensively upgraded. Cllr Magennis had expressed concern back in 2023 when the playpark had to have items removed due to health and safety concerns.
The decision was made at last evenings, 18/11/24 meeting of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council's Active and Healthy Communities Committee. Agenda item 8 the 'Play Park Review Strategy Business Case' was approved in committee.
Councillor Magennis said “Belleek had been left with a significantly reduced PlayPark for over two years.
"As local Councillor I have worked with the Belleek community to ensure that the PlayPark for the village is fit for purpose and I commend the local community for their efforts”.
The Slieve Gullion Councillor concluded “I am delighted to announce that work on the new Play area will commence in the next few weeks, with the aim of being completed by March 2025.
The plans for the new playpark look fantastic, and it will be a fully accessible and inclusive area for the entire community to enjoy”.
