A 39 year old man has been arrested following a search operation in Newry in relation to the suspected illegal distribution of unauthorised television set top boxes, used to unlawfully stream premium television services.

Detectives conducted the searches yesterday Wednesday 23rd December. Three properties were searched and the man was arrested in connection with the sale and distribution of unauthorised set top boxes.
During the operation police seized a substantial amount of cash as well as electronic devices, believed to be for use in the illegal distribution of premium TV services.
Detective Sergeant James Johnston said, “The use of such pirate television services may seem by many to be a victimless crime however this activity puts jobs within that sector at risk, with an inferior product that can often fund other forms of criminality.
In preparing our investigation we have worked closely with our associates in the Anti-piracy divisions of Industry Partners. Our work continues and we would appeal for anyone with information regarding such activity to contact Police on 101”.
