Write a commentMs Maria Boyle from Camlough was March’s winner of the Recycler of the Month competition. The competition, which is sponsored by the Department of the Environment’s Rethink Waste campaign in partnership with Newry and Mourne District Council, awards £50 to householders who use their recycling bins correctly.
Maria’s bin was full to the lid of recyclable materials. When awarded the £50 cheque Maria said, ‘With two children in the house my blue bin is always full. Sometimes I even have to take recycling up to Camlough Household Recycling Centre’. Her blue bin contained all the correct recyclable material including newspapers, cardboard, glass bottles and jars and sweet tins. ‘I try to recycle as much as possible and if I am ever unsure, I check the Councils website to see what materials I can put into the blue bin’.
The Recycling Officer checked 20 bins at random in the St Oliver Plunkett park area of Camlough and noted that some residents had placed incorrect materials into the blue bin. Some bins contained plastic wrap, plastic film and plastic bags and food waste. Residents are reminded these items cannot be recycled in your blue bin and should be placed into the black bin.
