Maria O’Reilly from Camlough is July’s Recycler of the Month!
The competition, which is sponsored by the Department of the Environment’s (DOE’s) Rethink Waste campaign in partnership with Newry and Mourne District Council, has £50 up for grabs every month for residents who maximise the use of their blue bins.
Maria said, “With a house full of teenagers we have plenty of opportunity to recycle, I often find myself having to stand in the blue bin to squash it down. It’s amazing how much can actually be recycled in the blue bin these days! With my £50 I’m going to treat the family to dinner in The Yellow Heifer!”
Tara Cunningham, Recycling Officer for the Council commented, “I would like to congratulate Maria on her efforts to recycle. Her blue bin contained the full range of recyclable materials therefore considerably reducing the amount of waste she sent to landfill in her black bin. In this hot weather, we advise people to remove the lids from their bottles and squash them to increase the capacity of the bin. Council is delighted to be able to provide recognition to our residents for their recycling efforts.”
