Here's a wee poem that I found in the Down Mirror which was published in the 1960's.
It's by George Cathcart and it's called
Market Day in Newry Town
The Countryside is wide awake,
The sun is shining brightly down,
with people rushing here and there;
It's market day in Newry Town
Some come in cars, some come in vans,
and some folk walk from miles around
to see the sights, to hear the news,
on market day in Newry Town.
The dealers come from far and near,
From Belfast, Lurgan, Portadown,
To meet the folk and sell there wares
on market day in Newry Town.
And many a bargain takes place there,
with suits and shoes both black and brown,
and pots and pans, with mats and chairs.
On market day in Newry Town.
It's good to meet these cheery folk,
Who smile and joke and seldom frown,
and even if you never buy,
They wish you well in Newry Town
