Newry City Councillor Aidan Mathers has held a constructive meeting with Housing Providers to discuss anti social behaviour in the area. The meeting was attended by agencies including the PSNI, Community Restorative Justice (CRJ) and the Fire Service.
The local Newry City representative who is Chairperson of the Policing & Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) Anti Social Behaviour sub committee had requested the meeting as Chairperson of the Anti social behaviour group within the PCSP.
Cllr Mathers said: "I specifically requested the meeting should discuss anti social behaviour problems within the area and how they impacted on tenants and communities and how working collectively we could address some of the challenges now faced in our Housing Estates and the wider community.
He added "A major point highlighted was that many felt there was a need for more work from the Housing Providers within communities in handling anti-social behaviour and making a positive impact in areas”.
“All in all those of us in attendance at this meeting found it a worthwhile, constructive and informative session.
Importantly shared experiences of problems were talked through and agreement that the meeting was constructive and should be replicated moving forward”.
