The Chaplain at Southern Area Hospice has received an MBE in the 2023 New Years Honours List.
Reverend Matthew Hagan received the award for services to Hospice Healthcare and to the community in Northern Ireland. He has been a Chaplain at the Hospice for 13 years and together with his colleagues provides spiritual, pastoral, and religious care to all patients, staff, and volunteers.
Rev Hagan is also Church of Ireland Rector of Tynan, Aghavilly and Middletown Parishes. In 2014 he started an annual Hospice Sunday Appeal in the Church of Ireland Diocese of Armagh which to date has raised over £200,000 for the Hospice. Earlier this year he did a skydive and raised over £8,000 for the Hospice.
