Local MLA Justin McNulty has called for “full commitment” to the delivery of Casement Park, saying it will act as a “game changer” for the North.
Speaking on the 70th anniversary of Casement Park, the Newry and Armagh MLA and former Armagh All-Ireland Winner Justin McNulty said: “the opportunities associated with the Casement Park Project are massive. Not only will it place the North at the centre of the world stage as a venue for the 2028 Euros, but it will provide a much needed home for Ulster GAA and offer huge investment and employment opportunities along the way.
“I am proud that former SDLP Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon paved the way for this project in the last Executive, and it is important now that support is provided to ensure completion of the new stadium in time for the 2028 Euros.
“A new world class stadium at Casement Park can be a catalyst for unity between sporting codes and traditions. It can be a beacon for Gaelic Games in Ulster and in Ireland and inspiring the next generation through sporting participation and cultural enrichment, and will be transformational hub for the community of West Belfast
“I think Stephen McGeehan at Ulster GAA put it very well when he said: 'Let’s take the opportunity of a lifetime in the lifetime of the opportunity.' Time to get Casement Park built once and for all."
