Justin Mc Nulty, MLA has praised the work of coaches and boxers at the Sacred Heart Boxing club in Bessbrook, following a spell in the ring with some of the club's up and coming boxers.
Speaking after a visit to the club Mr Mc Nulty said “I was delighted to accept an invitation from the legendary Seamus Mc Cormick to visit the Sacred Heart Boxing Club in Bessbrook. I took to the ring with some of the young boxers and was extremely impressed with their fitness and ability. I escaped unscathed but left with the greatest respect for everyone involved in running this club."
The Newry and Armagh representative stressed the importance of the discipline that young people learn from the coaching and training at boxing clubs as something that will serve them well throughout their lives and help them become active and positive citizens.
Speaking about Seamus McCormick Justin added “It is important to recognise that the voluntary contribution of men such as Seamus is invaluable. I am working along with the club officials to ensure that their work is not in any way hampered by the burden of expenses such as rates.
“I look forward to seeing many more champions emerge from clubs such as Sacred Heart. Regardless of winning, the experience of the discipline of boxing will stand all those young people who undergo it in good stead for the rest of their lives.”
