A memorial stone in memory of Donna McCoy Sloan will be unveiled in Camlough this Saturday 24 October 2026 at 11am. The unveiling is being held in recognition of Palestinian Women’s Day. Donna’s family has invited friends, neighbours, community activists and everyone whose lives she touched to attend.
Donna was a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She was also a campaigner for justice and an advocate for the Palestinian people. She was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2021 and continued to stand alongside the voiceless during her illness.
In August 2024, Donna joined family and community members in Camlough to plant a tree for Palestine. The event marked 300 days of what the family describes as the genocide in Gaza. Donna was unable to speak herself, so her daughter Caoibhe delivered her message of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Donna died on 17 January 2026. She was remembered for her courage, kindness and dedication to others. She was a wife to Anthony, mummy to Caoibhe, Ciara, Conor and Clíodhna, and nanny to Donnacha, Oisín and Méabh. Her family said her loss has left an immeasurable emptiness, but that her love and legacy live on.
The memorial stone will carry the words “Resist my people, resist them”, the title of a poem by Palestinian poet and activist Dareen Tatour. The family said the words are a fitting tribute to Donna’s solidarity with Palestine. They added that the unveiling reflects the values Donna held dear, which were courage, compassion, resilience and the belief that injustice must never go unchallenged.
Donna’s family would be grateful for the presence of all who can attend to remember a woman who gave so much to her family, community and the causes she believed in. Everyone is welcome.
The Memorial Stone Unveiling, In Loving Memory of Donna McCoy Sloan, takes place on Saturday 24 October 2026 at 11am in Centenary Garden, Camlough.
