MLA Justin McNulty has pressed the Economy Minister for delivery on the campaign to have Ireland’s Ancient East extended to include counties Armagh and Down. Mr. McNulty believes delivery on the pledged commitment is long overdue.
The Newry and Armagh MLA said: “Alongside my colleagues on Newry Mourne and Down District Council, I have been campaigning for the expansion of Ireland’s Ancient East because we believe it will be a game changer for tourism in our region.
“The SDLP has campaigned to drive this issue forward. We have secured support from political parties on both sides of the border, Newry Mourne and Down District Council, and from local tourism providers. But there has been a frustrating lack of progress at an Executive level.
“Including counties Armagh and Down in Ireland’s Ancient East will put our region on the international tourism map and provide a massive lift for the local economy.
“The Economy Minister has pledged to support this campaign. What we need to see now is delivery.”
