Newry and Armagh MLA Justin McNulty is asking all to “leave the Trust in no doubt as to where we stand” in relation to the withdrawal of emergency general surgery from Daisy Hill Hospital by taking part in the Public Consulatation organised by the Southern Trust. The Consultation ends 21 April and between now and then people will be out across the community to gather signatures for a petition to oppose the move.
Mr. McNulty said it is vital that the local community rallies around Daisy Hill in the coming weeks to fend off the latest attacks on our services. Mr McNulty said “a campaign of resistance has been mounted to make it crystal clear to the Trust that they do not have the support of the people in stripping away further services from Daisy Hill.
“Local activists will be in communities across the District gathering petition signatures to oppose the Trust’s moves every Saturday between now and the end of the public consultation on 21st April. I would strongly encourage everyone to put their names to that petition, and make your opposition clear.
“In addition, I would ask everyone across Newry, South Armagh, and south Down to take a stand on Saturday 29th April, when we will be rallying on Hill Street and marching to Daisy Hill. It is vital that local people turn out in strength to make it clear to the Trust and the Department of Health that if they want to strip away another service from Daisy Hill, then they’re going to have to come through us.”
