Mr Brady has said that he shares the concerns of many that the Southern Trust are pushing the need for a new CT Scanner in Daisy Hill Hospital “down the road”.
The MP explained “The current situation in relation to restricted excess to CT Scanner services in Daisy Hill is totally unacceptable. I raised the issue once again last week after further break downs in the present Scanner had resulted in the non availability of the service for a 91yr old man.
“The response from the Southern Trust on the one hand agrees that there is a need for a new Scanner, whilst on the other hand insinuates that the Scanner has another few years to go before its “end of life date.
“There is no doubt that a new Scanner is needed and the Trust speaking out of both sides of its mouth on this issue is totally wrong. The promise of the provision of a mobile Scanner by December to “fill the gap”, doesn’t in anyway help ease concern”.
Concluding the MP said “Daisy Hill Acute Hospital, Newry City is in the largest locality in the Southern Trust in Newry & Mourne, and also provides for the wider catchment population which also includes south Armagh and south Down.
"It is essential that to ensure that the objectives of ‘increasing capacity to meet future demand and to further improve quality and safety’ are met, that investment and funding for new, up to date major CT and MRI scanning equipment is made available as a matter of urgency.”
