MP Dáire Hughes has slammed today’s decision by the British government to pause funding for City and Growth Deals.
The Newry and Armagh MP said “Today’s decision by the British government to pause funding for City and Growth Deals is totally unacceptable.
"This investment is already having game-changing outcomes for regeneration, creating good jobs and unleashing our full economic potential”.
He continued “These deals have injected over £130 million into our local economy, including the regeneration of Newry, funding for the Mourne Gateway project and the Southern Relief Road project, which would strengthen the Dublin to Belfast economic corridor and ease congestion in Newry.
"I will be writing to the British Government today urging them to immediately reverse this decision and reinstate this funding now.”
"His colleague Newry and Armagh MLA Liz Kimmins said that the decision taken by the British Government was a major blow to the local economy and business.
The MLA said “This is an absolutely disgraceful decision taken by the British Government today to pause city deal funding.
