Newry and Armagh MP Dáire Hughes has extended his best wishes to the organisers, participants, and all those attending today’s Pride celebrations in Newry.
"I want to wish everyone attending Newry Pride a safe and enjoyable day," said MP Dáire Hughes. "This is a fantastic celebration of inclusion, respect, and equality — values that lie at the heart of our community and what we stand for.
He also commended the efforts behind the scenes that have made the event possible.
"I want to say a big thank you to Newry councillors who have worked hard to ensure this year's Pride is supported and facilitated by Newry Mourne and Down Council. Their commitment to providing the necessary resources and equipment has played a key role in bringing this important celebration to life."
The MP also condemned those that removed pride flags during the week. "These flags were proudly displayed to promote inclusion, respect, and equality – values that are at the heart of our community. Their removal is a disgraceful act that disrespects not only the LGBTQ+ community, but all those who believe in building a fairer, more inclusive society.
"Pride is a celebration of identity, solidarity, and the ongoing fight for equality. Attempts to silence or erase that visibility will not succeed." Thanks to Dundalk Outcomers new flags were placed around the city today.
Mr Hughes reaffirmed Sinn Féin’s ongoing support for the LGBTQ+ community: "Sinn Féin will always stand with the LGBTQ+ community in the fight for equality, dignity, and human rights — not just during Pride, but every day of the year."
Encouraging everyone to get involved Hughes added: "I encourage everyone to come along, join in the festivities, and enjoy the colour, vibrancy, and positivity that Pride brings to our city. It’s a day to celebrate who we are and the inclusive future we are building together."
