Newry is represented at the Mr Gay Ireland Final this coming Sunday in Dublin by Newry man Padraig Lynch.
Padraig a keen sportsman and absolute fanatical Down fan was picked as Mr Gay Newry in July and is looking forward to representing his city.
Mr Gay Ireland is an All Island project to promote the self esteem of young gay men and raises large sums of money for HIV/Aids Charities.
The winner from this year will automatically go forward to the Mr Gay World Competition in Manila in the Philippines in 2011 so there is a lot at stake.
Damian McKevitt, Secretary of the Newry Rainbow Community praised Padraig for his endless selfless work in helping get the NRC Drop in Centre in Hill Street up and running and cited him as a role model for the gay community.
"Padraig is well known in Newry being involved in many areas of civic life. He is involved heavily in local Swimming, Running and Cycling groups. I hope the entire population of our city will support him in Dublin on the 24th"
