Councillor Declan Murphy is the new Chair of Slieve Gullion DEA forum. The Newry, Mourne and Down District Council representative says his priority will be to make it a vehicle for delivering real change for South Armagh.
The Slieve Gullion councillor said “I’m delighted to be the new Cathaoirleach for the Slieve Gullion DEA and I’m keen to use my position to bring about real change for the people of South Armagh.
“I want to work closely with others, to identify the key issues for our community and work to address them with a credible plan.
“We need to build strong working relationships with the local community, voluntary and public sector, with our sports clubs, our cultural groups, up to businesses, funders and potential investors, encouraging them to take a more active role in the group.
“There are many people and groups that are keen to put South Armagh on the map and I want to work together with them, building credible, deliverable plans to help make this a reality.
“The DEA forum could and should be a mechanism for working together for the good of our communities."
The Slieve Gullion Councillor believes that new personnel on board with new ideas will help make it into a driving force for real change in South Armagh.
DEA Forums have been developed as a model of engagement and provide opportunities for all sections of the community to participate in discussion and operate as part of the decision making process in Council.
