Newry and Mourne Museum are hosting three talks over three days on the Good Friday Agreement later this month. The Agreement was signed 25 year ago this coming Monday 10 April.
These talks, organised in conjunction with Queens University Belfast, will take place on 18, 19 and 21 April at 1pm. The themes for each day are as follows:
- Day 1: Sunningdale for Slow Learners
This session will provide the context for the 1998 agreement. It will provide a brief overview of the conflict in Northern Ireland with a particular emphasis on political initiatives. More specifically it will focus on the Sunningdale agreement and ask why did it fail?
- Day 2: Good Friday / Belfast Agreement
This session will focus on the events leading up to the agreement and the agreement itself. It will also examine its aftermath and the key personalities who helped forge the agreement.
- Day 3: The Agreement 25 years on.
This session will assess to what extent the agreement has been a success. It will examine the various political initiatives that have attempted to solve ongoing disputes over the institutions in Northern Ireland. It will also consider issues of peace and reconciliation, and truth and justice.
There will be a cost of £2.18pp for each talk. If you wish to book please contact Declan Carroll at Declan.Carroll@nmandd.org
