Write a commentThe Southern Health and Social Care Trust has scooped three top prizes at the 2019 National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards.
The Awards celebrate excellence in the support for people with learning disabilities and aim to pay tribute to those who excel in providing quality care.
There were 16 award categories representing all areas of support in the sector; from frontline staff such as support workers, nurses and managers, to people and organisations who have made an impact in other areas such as training and innovation. Southern Trust winners were:
Glanree House Support Staff, The Supporting Older People with Learning Disabilities Award The judges commented that this is an amazing team, truly person centred passionate with a real commitment to the people they support.
Disability Day Services Team, The Great Autism Practice Award
The team was recognised as a really excellent group whose commitment shone through with a real drive to value staff and service users equally.
Bernie McNaughton, The Learning Disability Nurse Award
Bernie was instrumental in identifying a service which supports people with complex care needs in the community and in leading the team who provides a holistic collaborative and coordinated approach to allow people to remain in their own homes.
Hosted by Care Talk Magazine, this is the second year of the awards in Northern Ireland. Congratulating Southern Trust winners; Director of Mental Health and Disability Services, Barney McNeany said: “It is such an outstanding achievement that for the second year running, a number of Southern Trust frontline staff have received this very well deserved recognition at the National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards. These awards offer a unique opportunity to celebrate the success of frontline staff who really do make a positive impact on people’s lives.
“We have a dedicated team right across learning disability services who work in quite challenging circumstances, yet with great compassion, to support service users and their families.
“These awards are a true reflection of the great work our staff do every day to help people with learning disability and autism to reach their full potential and to live as independently as possible within their own communities.”
