MP Dáire Hughes is urging as many people as possible to attend the UNICEF fundraising 5k Walk for the ‘Children of Gaza’ at Armagh this weekend.

The event will take place in Navan Fort/ Emain Macha this Sunday 6 April at 11am and is open to all.

Mr Hughes said “Hundreds more innocent babies, women and men have been slaughtered since the resumption of Israel’s barbaric onslaught against the defenceless population of Gaza. The death toll now stands at over 50,000 - a horrifying statistic.

"I would encourage everyone to attend this event to show your support for the people of Palestine and our disgust at the ongoing barbaric actions against the people of Gaza and the West Bank”.

ABC Mayor Cllr Sarah Duffy is also encouraging all to attend the walk. “The suffering of children in Gaza is heartbreaking, and as a global community, we have a duty to stand with them. This walk is about raising awareness, showing solidarity, and making a real impact by supporting UNICEF’s essential work on the ground.

"60% of those killed in Gaza since October 2023 are women and children. Children and families have faced repeat displacement, widespread violence, hunger and disease. The risk of famine is growing. There are no safe spaces in Gaza."

Cllr Duffy and Dermot Kelly, Chair of IPSC Armagh are the keynote speakers and the event is open to all.

Participants should gather outside the Navan Centre before setting off on the 5K walk, with all proceeds going directly to UNICEF Gaza Appeal for Children in Crisis.

MP Dáire Hughes added “We must continue to stand together to demand an end to the genocide and occupation of the Palestinian people, and a lasting peaceful settlement that leads to an independent and viable Palestinian state.”
