Write a commentJoin Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s Ring of Gullion team and Ulster Wildlife for a nest box building workshop on Saturday 11 February from 2pm to 4pm as part of National Nest Box Week, starting on Valentine’s Day.
The workshop will take place in the Pastoral Centre, Jonesborough. Attendees will get a chance to make their very own nest box to bring home and use in the hopes of encouraging more birds to their garden.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said, “We are looking forward to help the local community to make their own nest box and providing information on what birds to look out for in the garden”.
Councillor Fitzpatrick continued, “National Nest Box Week takes places from 14-21 February 2017 and it's a chance for everyone to encourage birds in their garden to come home to roost! The idea behind the week is to get us all to put up nest boxes in our local areas, not only to protect the wildlife we already have, but to encourage even more birds to brood in our backyards.”
Natural nest sites for birds such as holes in trees or old buildings are disappearing fast as gardens are tidied and old houses are repaired. Taking part in National Nest Box Week gives you the chance to contribute to bird conservation whilst giving you the pleasure of observing any breeding birds that you attract to your nest box.
