Write a commentMembers of the local community gathered earlier this month to celebrate the official opening of the new playpark in St Patrick’s Park, Cullaville. It's the last of the 15 playparks to be funded by Rural Development Funding and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey said, “I am delighted to be here today to open this state-of-the-art playpark. This new playpark has truly been a community effort with local people making their views known in the consultation process.
“The Council is keen to ensure that the play parks and all open spaces within the district are of a high quality, welcoming and easily accessible so that they can be used by everyone.
“It is pleasing to see a community sharing our view that outside play is fun, exciting and important for children’s learning, development and growth. These new playparks have been designed with inclusive play in mind and this allows us to provide fun activities for all children that will help to improve their physical health and encourage social inclusion.”
Ann Grant, Vice Chair of the Local Action Group said, “The opening of another playpark shows the continued commitment of the Local Action Group to invest in facilities for the rural dwellers of the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council. Through the funding provided by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs and the European Union, the Local Action Group is delighted to be able to allocate £500k in grant assistance to develop a suite of playparks across the district.”
The equipment at the new Cullaville playpark includes an exciting XS Cyclone Hurac. As part of this, a multi-play Wicksteed 'Outrigger system has been included. This system provides endless play opportunities with a range of bridges across variable heights—offering a progressive challenge for all users. From high towers and climbing nets to fireman’s poles and scramble nets, there’s something for everyone in the new multi-play units.
