1 CommentA new dedicated X5 Newry to Dublin service, jointly operated by Translink and Bus Éireann Expressway, will run from Sunday 10 June. Like the current X1 service it will directly serve Dublin Airport and Dublin City centre, and should go some way in making the popular route even more attractive.
At occasions in the past buses have arrived at Newry station almost full, with some passengers having to wait for the next one, but the new direct departures should greatly reduce the posibility of that scenario.
Ulsterbus Newry Service Delivery Manager Greg McLaughlin said: “We have listened to feedback from our customers and are delighted to be offering direct X5 services from Newry to Dublin Airport and on to Dublin City Centre.
“This new route offers our customers great flexibility – passengers can choose to travel to Dublin on an X5 and return on an X5 or X1.
Greg continued: “Newry passengers can choose to travel on 20 daily services to Dublin, operating from 12.55am until 10.55pm Monday to Friday. 21 return coaches will run from 1.15am until 11.15pm from Dublin City Centre, operated by Translink Goldline or Expressway.
“Hourly services will operate from 7.15am until 6.15pm from Newry to Dublin and passengers wishing to catch early flights from Dublin Airport can travel down at 12.55am; 1.55am; 3.55am and 5.40am.”
Fares can be bought online, from £6 one way to Dublin Airport and £6.50 single fare to Dublin City Centre.
Expressway Product Manager Sean Forde said: “The New X5 service is being introduced in response to customer demand for a dedicated high frequency route between Dublin City and Dublin Airport to Newry. The new X5 service - when added to existing X1 services - provides for 21 returns trips per day between Dublin and Newry.”
