New Newry based Festival part of districts Giant Adventures in 2017

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council are set to deliver yet another programme of 'Giant' Adventures for the district in 2017-18 following the success of last years Wake the Giant festival in Warrenpoint and Footsteps in the Forest festival at Slieve Gullion.

Details will also be announced for a new Newry city festival later in the year which aims to highlight the merchant history of the area, including the importance of Newry Canal to Newry's development.

The full programme of Giant Adventures will be launched on 7 March.

A Tourism Strategy for the district from 2017-2021 will also be launched.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick, said, 'Events act as a great attractor of visitors to the district and generate a very significant annual contribution, circa £10m, for the local economy."
