As addiction and mental health challenges continue to affect individuals and families across the island of Ireland, a new retreat programme launching in the Newry area aims to offer a more holistic path towards recovery and wellbeing.
Founded by recovery advocate and therapeutic practitioner John Taylor, Beyond Addiction Retreats has been created in response to the growing need for recovery approaches that look beyond addiction itself and focus on the deeper emotional and psychological factors that often lie beneath addictive behaviours.
With more than 20 years’ experience in addiction counselling and therapeutic practice, John has dedicated his career to supporting people in recovery and helping them build lasting, meaningful change. His professional background includes residential social care, leadership roles within the airline industry, and extensive work in addiction recovery and therapeutic development.
“Our retreats go far beyond coping,” says John. “They help people reconnect with themselves, understand the patterns driving addictive behaviours, and experience recovery in a supportive, nonjudgemental space. With ongoing holistic and psychoeducational support, peer connection, and wellbeing practices, we help reduce relapse risk and rebuild confidence, resilience, and purpose - creating strong foundations for longterm recovery.”
The retreats combine therapeutic work, mindfulness practices, meditation, breathwork, movement, nutrition and guided self-reflection within a peaceful retreat setting designed to encourage long-term wellbeing and personal transformation.
