Thanks to water levels lowering over the course of the past 12 hrs some Newry businesses have been able to start their clean up following extensive flooding in the city yesterday. Others based around Sugar Island, Sugarhouse Quay and Canal Quay are still not accesible but water levels are lowering steadily throughout the day.
Many premises have suffered extensive damage. Kukoon Rugs at Carnbane Industrial Estate is still waterlogged, although their clear up operation is ongoing. While the premises are closed their online business is still in use.

Nugelato on the edge of Sugar Island have lost considerable stock of their ice cream due to the flood water damaging fridges.
An NIE substation at Carnbane was also flooded with work ongoing to pump out the floodwater.
The water in Basin Walk Car Park, which at the height of flooding was complete inaccesible is receding steadily with businesses now able to take their vehicles in. WIN Business Park was accessed by some vehicular traffic earlier and as the water level recedes this should be completely accesible.
Currently as a precautionary measure the Department for Infrastructure has closed off Monaghan Street to vehicles from midday. Other routes are unaffected.
The DfI have said that they received almost 800 calls to the flooding incident line and that they have deployed over 12,000 sandbags to the worst affected areas.
