Write a commentA province wide search for a stem cell donor has made friends of a Belfast woman Sharon Whyte McCloskey set up a drop in event in Newry today Thursday 10 July from 5 - 9pm at St John Bosco Youth Centre, Chequer Hill.
Sharon has an aggressive form of leukemia and urgently needs a stem cell transplant, a plight which is deepened with the knowledge that she requires an extremely rare match to help her conquer this horrible condition.
If you are aged between 17 and 55 you can go along to register as a stem cell donor. It only takes five minutes of your time with a simple swab of your mouth all that is necessary but it's something that literally could help save her life.
Sharon Whyte McCloskey decided in February, like we all do, to get an appointment with the Dr to get her bloods checked as she was fed up feeling tired all the time.
Diagnosed with aggressive blood cancer chemotherapy was needed immediately
"You do not expect to sit with your 10, 7 and 3 year old sons within weeks and ask them to shave your beautiful hair off, doing so in an attempt to make them feel a part of your journey and trying your best to create an illusion in them of joining you on a wild adventure or simply: "look at silly Mummy getting her hair shaved off!!" All much more preferable than the fear and sorrow of the reality that Mummy, Daddy and these innocent boys have been thrown in to."
