Part One of the Newry Musical Feis opened today at Newry Town Hall with the Irish Dance (Open) Section. The Feis will continue till Sunday and then there will be a break before it recommences in April.
With over 600 entrants in Part One alone Newry's Feis is one of the largest of this type of event in the world and even in it's 85th Year, popularity of the competitions continues to grow.
There are approximately 14,000 entries each year; three sessions per day, and the equivalent of 39 days of performance across seven Sections so it's a massive undertaking by the committee and volunteers.
This years Adjudicator of the Dance section is Nuala Keogh Dunne from Dublin.
The Feis is grant-aided by Newry & Mourne District Council, receives its main sponsorship from Newry Credit Union and is an affiliated member of the British and International Federation of Festivals.
