Newry.ie Interview Newry DEA Local Government Election Candidates

Council election: - May 18, 2023 - Meet some Newry DEA candidates

In advance of the local government elections on May 18, Newry.ie has carried out a series of short video interviews over the last number of weeks with candidates in the Newry DEA.

All parties - and the Independent candidate - were offered the opportunity to interview with all accepting the offer, bar Sinn Féin - the party did not respond to two approaches.

Check out the interviews below

Note: Candidates above are those who agreed to be interviewed!

These short interviews gave the candidates the opportunity to introduce themselves to Newry voters as well as answer questions on the following:

• Where did they stand on the increased lack of transparency, openness and accountability in local government?
• People’s Park at Albert Basin or Council offices behind Newry Cathedral - what was their priority?
• If elected, what did they want to do to improve Newry City for people?
• And why people should vote for them or their party (where applicable) in the forthcoming local election?
