Today we launch the Newry.ie Photographer of the Year 2022 Competition to find the best photographer in the Newry area.
The competition will involve nine monthly assignments taking on many photography genres. At the beginning of each month Photographer Mark Pearce will announce the assignment via an online zoom meeting where he will give you tips and ideas on making the most of that month's Theme.

First Zoom event is next Monday 11 April 7.30pm. Details will be shared here and on the Newry.ie Facebook page.
To enter: Tune in to the monthly Zoom or check it out online later and submit ONE image by email to npoy@newry.ie as your interpretation of the topic by midnight on the last day of the month. You must include a Title for the photograph along with your name and address (Your address is only for confirmation purposes and NOT for publication). Your photograph should not contain any signature/ watermark to identify the image.
1: Top entrants will be awarded points each month for their entry with the person with the highest number of points declared the winner each month and the highest number of total points in the year being declared the Newry.ie Photographer of the Year.
Prize
Overall Newry.ie Photographer of the Year: Cash Prize of £200 and prestigious NPOY Trophy
Runner Up: Cash prize of £100
Monthly winner: Voucher worth £25 to be used in a specific Newry venue.
The purpose of this competition is primarily to encourage photography locally and instil a pride in Newry but first and foremost it will be a fun experience.
The Competition will run for 9 months with the 2022 NPOY awarded in January 2023.
The Rules:By submitting a photograph you agree with the following rules *
1: The decisions of Newry.ie and the judges are final and we won't enter into any correspondence on same.
2: For the competition to take place there must be at least 10 entrants every month.
3: The competition is open to everyone presently living in the Newry area or anyone with a connection to the city regardless of photographer status, skills or equipment used. The photographs need to be taken in the Newry area, roughly as below. **

4: Your submission must be your own work. You don't have to enter every month to win but it certainly gives you a better chance.
5: Just ONE entry on each monthly topic must be submitted as a jpeg by email to nPOY@newry.ie by midnight on the last day of the month. You must include a title for the photograph along with your name and address. (Address is just for reference and not for publication) Images must not contain any signature/ watermark to identify the image.
6: By entering you give us the permission to use your images on Newry.ie social media channels and the Newry.ie website (in connection with the competition only)
7: Entries must be taken after the monthly assignment has been announced, ie a photograph you have already taken will not qualify.
8: Your entry must NOT be published anywhere else until after the winners have been chosen for the month you have entered. If it is published elsewhere you will be disqualified for that month
9: Photographs should not be overedited, ie sky replacements etc.
10: Entrants will be published on the Newry.ie Website and social media pages from 1st day of the month for one week for the purpose of judging. The Monthly winners will be decided by the Public and a judging Panel. 40% of the vote will be from the public, decided from the number of likes given to each entrant via our social media channels and website, where they will appear for a week. The other 60% will come from the Judges. The overall Photographer of the Year Award will be decided from the monthly totals of the public and the judges.
11: Newry.ie reserves the right to make changes to the competition if deemed necessary during the competition or to cancel competition if the required ten entrants a month don't arise.
