Newry's thriving night time economy has got another reason to celebrate, after the City retained it's international Purple Flag Status and what better way to mark the award than a mix of events throughout the city in the lead up to Halloween.

Purple Flag is an accreditation process for town and cities that meet or surpass the standards of excellence in the evening and night-time economy.

It's hoped that many of the Night Time providers will join in on the fun and help make an impressive splash of colour by painting the city Purple!

The Purple Flag project was led by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s Policing & Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) supported by a steering group which was represented by Newry City Centre Management, Newry Chamber of Commerce & Trade, Police Service Northern Ireland, Night Time Economy providers, business community and interested parties.

Speaking about Newry’s success Chairperson Naomi Baille stated, “It represents a huge achievement for the Night time Economy to receive this mid-term re-accreditation.  It makes an important statement about the offering available in our City and demonstrates the partnership ethos to ensure that people visiting our City Centre day / night have a great time, as well as a safe and welcoming experience.

"Purple Flag is a marketing brand to drive economic growth, create investment and improve standards.  This was clearly evident at the recently attended Newry Greater Area Business Awards, were local businesses achieved recognition for exceptionally high stands and ambition which is synonymous with this region."
