Write a commentNewry Parish have cancelled all public Masses until furthur notice. The announcement comes during the particulary busy lenten period for the church. Priests will say Mass in private and they will be available to watch live online.
Funerals and wedding Masses will still take place but will be restricted to 100 people. Baptisms also will continue but only with immediate family.
The parish statement from Administrator Fr Desmond Loughran says "From Friday 13th march 2020 until further notice all Masses in Newry parish will be said at the normal time and in private by the priest
"All Masses will be available to watch on the parish website only at www.newrycathedralparish.org
"Funerals and weddings are restricted to 100 people in the church.
"Baptisms will continue in Newry parish, however they will be restricted to the parents, siblings and godparents of the baby to be baptised only.
Thank you for your co-operation at this difficult time"
At present it's not known if restrictions will include Easter itself.
