Two Newry Saoradh members and their 17 year old son have had their bank accounts frozen
Stephen Murney, National Chairperson of Saoradh and his partner Cliodhna McCool claim it is at the behest of MI5/PSNI.
They both hold separate current accounts with Nationwide and were notified on Wednesday 19 July that access to their accounts were restricted.
Today Stephen's son who is completely non-political also had his account frozen. He works a part time job in the centre of Newry and is now unable to access his wages.
It's the third time Cliodhna has had a bank account frozen and the first time Stephen's account has been targeted.
Saoradh representative Dee Fennell said “Once again we bare witness to the weaponising of institutions in order to attack Republican families. This is a vindictive ploy by MI5/PSNI that is designed to put entire families under stress and pressure due to their political views.”
Stephen Murney added "It must be noted that when the infamous fascist Nigel Farage had his bank account closed for "political reasons" it received national and international media coverage.
"It seems that Irish Republicans are fair game for economic punishment given the fact that there seems to be a media blackout when half a dozen Republican families are targeted in similar fashion.
"Not only are the media silent on this obscene act of oppression but local politicians have not uttered a single word of concern in regards to this."
