A Newry woman is co-ordinating a campaign to help women defend themselves while helping build their confidence.
Kerrie Havern from the Newry franchise of Strike Back Self Defence for Women is currently asking local hospitality businesses to place stickers in their toilets helping women who may not have access to social media find out about their classes.
Kerrie explains "The purpose of these stickers is simple, to give women a discreet and safe space to scan our QR code and sign up for our women-only self-defence classes.

"Our classes are designed to build confidence, increase awareness and empower you with the skills to protect yourself."
Explaining what the self defence classes cover Kerrie said: "I teach women and children the importance of self-defence: how to protect themselves, build confidence and feel empowered. Strike Back matters deeply to me because I believe every woman and child deserves to feel safe, strong and heard.
"In our sessions, you’ll learn: Confidence and awareness, practical self-defence techniques, realistic, hands-on scenarios and supportive, empowering training."
Strike Back explain that they believe safety is a life skill, confidence is teachable and that no one should have to rely on fear or luck to protect themselves. The organisation is working on building a global network focused on education, preparation, and confidence not fear.
